Understanding NDIS Eligibility in Australia
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to provide support to Australians living with a permanent or significant disability, helping them live more independently and reach their personal goals. But how do you know if you're eligible?
At Care Provisions Australia, we’re here to guide you every step of the way—starting with determining your eligibility to access the right support.
You may be eligible to receive NDIS support if you meet the following four key criteria:
You must either:
Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities, engage in the community, work, or live independently without assistance
OR
Be a child under the age of 6 with a developmental delay, or someone who would benefit from early intervention support to reduce the need for future assistance
Common conditions supported under the NDIS include intellectual disability, physical impairments, neurological conditions, psychosocial disabilities, autism, and sensory impairments.
To be eligible, you must be:
An Australian citizen
OR a Permanent Visa holder
OR a New Zealand citizen with a Protected Special Category Visa
The NDIS is available across all regions in Victoria, including Melbourne metro and surrounding suburbs. If you live in an area where the NDIS has been rolled out, you're likely eligible for services.

To apply for the NDIS, you must be under the age of 65 at the time of your application. If you're over 65 and already receiving disability services, your supports will continue through the aged care system.
Use the official NDIS Access Checklist Tool to quickly assess your eligibility:

Or call the NDIS directly on 1800 800 110.

People aged 65 and over are not eligible to apply for the NDIS. However:
If you were receiving disability support before turning 65, you may continue to receive that support through the Commonwealth Continuity of Support Program.
If you're over 65 and require assistance, services are provided under the Aged Care system instead of the NDIS.
At Care Provisions Australia, we help individuals and families across Melbourne and Victoria navigate the NDIS system with ease—from eligibility checks to accessing approved services.
